On top of this, I feel like there are more speedy sections in Sonic 2 than in Sonic 1 or 3, and also more sections where you aren't doing much in general. Because of this, there weren't a lot of areas where I got satisfaction out of using the spindash - at least not as many as in Sonic 3. They added a lot of cool mechanics which were excellent but I feel like they didn't augment and tweak the level design to accomodate for the changes.
