High performance with a low price makes the top GT trim of the Kia Forte a no-brainer. Those conscious of fuel economy may not consider the Forte’s average-yet still relatively frugal-consumption, particularly with the Corolla, Elantra, Hyundai Sonata and even the Prius all coming to the table with hybrid powertrains. One can even get Honda Civic Si-like performance from the GT and a six-speed manual transmission for considerably less than the Honda itself, while our favorite, the Mazda3, is also more expensive, especially with the turbo engine. Its cheap cost of entry, even when fully loaded to the max, undercuts all the perennial rivals without compromising on any of the experience. The LXS, GT-Line, and GT models continue with their same great recipes and rich feature set. However, the rest of the lineup adds another $400 across the board. The LX replaces the FE base model, which is cheaper than last year’s LX by $100. It just received its mid-cycle update in 2022, which introduced new wheel, headlight and taillight designs, an updated upgradable infotainment system and other subtleties. It’s already a stellar compact sedan that’s withstanding the test of time. Nothing is really new this year and that’s because the Forte doesn’t need much of an update. In 2018, Kia elevated the Forte alongside its Hyundai Elantra cousin to become one of the best sedans for the money. Though it didn’t truly find its stride until 2012’s second-gen model, it then proved itself in a segment dominated by Honda’s beloved Civic, Toyota’s revered Corolla, and Mazda’s bewitching 3 sedan. Since its introduction in 2008, the Kia Forte has served as the automaker’s entrant in the compact mainstream sedan segment. ![]()
